Global Warming Facts: Some Statistics
The real causes of Global Warming - Find out how our daily habits have disastrous effects for the planet
The two major greenhouse gases are the carbon dioxide that contributes to the greenhouse effect to a height of 60% and methane. While methane has only a weak life span in the atmosphere, the carbon dioxide there remains for more than a century. why we focus mostly on the reduction of the emission of carbon dioxide.
POET to Power Ethanol Plant Expansion with Alternative Energy Source
More than half of the ethanol plant's natural gas usage will be replaced by fuel generated from waste.
New Business Venture Inspired by Corporate Greed And Global Warming
Being disillusioned and fed up hearing about corporate greed, and overall business ineptness, Mr. Cassius Lobo and Mr. Graeme Macrae simply asked; Can a company in today's business climate succeed based on good corporate ethics and values? Well, according to the now owners of Ideal North, a new Montreal apparel company, the answer was not only yes, but the basis of their business plan: "Offer products and service that exceed customer expectations, be environmentally conscientious, and to keep integrity at the forefront in all aspects of the operation."
How You Can Play a Small Part it Reducing Global Warming
It?s very important that we all do what we can to reduce the effects of global warming not just in our immediate area, but all over the world as well. By combing our smaller efforts, we can significantly reduce the impact global warming has on our every day lives.
A New Investigative Website on Global Warming Offers Unique Insights and Graphics Covering Existing Competing Theories
Release of a new website on global warming dealing with the competing theories of greenhouse gases and influences from the sun.
In Acknowledgment of Global Warming, Fashion House Ushers in an Early Spring: Mehera Shaw Announces a 10% Donation to Environmental Groups
Mark and Shari Keller, fashion entrepreneurs and owners of ethical fashion house, Mehera Shaw, are asking customers to join in raising funds for environmental change. They will donate 10% of their sales on spring items to select environmental organizations during the week from January 25 to February 1, 2007. Mehera Shaw is working to lessen its environmental footprint by incorporating organic cotton into its line. It is also inviting its customers to help grow a greener world.
Ski Company Goes Green To Combat Global Warming.
Thousands of skiers will soon be dusting down their salopettes and dashing off in search of the biggest snowfall.
National Coatings AcryShield Roof Coatings Fight Global Warming
Last year alone, the cool-roof coating materials manufactured by National Coatings under the AcryShield label helped avoid as many as 24 million pounds of CO2 being produced due to reduced demands for energy.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) March 12, 2007 --Though Al Gore recently won an Oscar for his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, there are some common misconceptions about the science behind global warming that could be leading us down a very dangerous path.
"This delicate balancing act of multiple and diverse natural processes and human activities gives us reason to be cautious," says astronomer, Dr. Hugh Ross. "But to suggest that we can stop global warming by simply cutting back on fossil fuel combustion and altering our industrial processes is naïve at best.
"If we ignore one or more of certain mechanisms that contribute to global warming or cooling, our attempted solutions could actually make matters worse." Dr. Hugh Ross is the founder and president of the premier science-faith think tank Reasons To Believe
"Many people are operating under a false assumption," Ross continues. "We tend to think Earth's climate will always be optimal for human civilization if we just take better care of it. But nothing could be further from the truth.
"When we put emotions and politics aside and take a rational look at our planet's history, we actually see something quite different. An examination of the Earth's ice and sediment cores shows that over the past four million years, the global climate has oscillated many times.
"The changes are caused by variations in Earth's orbit. Each cycle lasts about 100,000 years with an ice age typically taking up 90,000 of those years, and a global warming effect, the other 10,000 years."
Hugh Ross is just one of many scientists who are concerned about the consequences of reacting too quickly in response to the conflicting and somewhat inaccurate information being circulated about global warming. UCLA astronomer, Dr. Jeff Zweerink concurs with Dr. Ross.
"Many natural phenomena significantly affect the global climate," says Zweerink. "Atmospheric conditions are impacted by tectonic activity, erosion, and changes in Earth's biomass, for example.
"While politicians and activists focus on the effects of burning fossil fuel," Zweerink continues, "the breeding and domestication of cows, the cultivation of rice, deforestation, and Earth's orbital variations all combine to contribute more to global warming than driving too many SUV's."
According to the Journal of Quaternary Science, over the last 9,000 years cattle farming and rice crop cultivation alone have nearly doubled the quantity of methane in the atmosphere. At the same time, deforestation has substantially increased the atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide. Both methane and carbon dioxide are greenhouse gases that trap the sun's heat.
"The bottom line here is that there are dozens of physical, chemical, and biological processes, and a myriad of human activities that contribute to both warming and cooling the planet," states Ross.
"When any one of these factors gets out of balance with the others, Earth is at risk of losing its optimal climate for human civilization.
"Scientifically speaking this intricate balance, designed specifically for humanity's benefit, is no accident. The amazing fine tuning observed in all these complex processes gives us a clear picture of a Creator who exquisitely prepared a place for humans to live in and to launch---at least for awhile---a global high-tech civilization."
Dr. Hugh Ross is the founder and president of the premier science/faith think tank, Reasons To Believe. He earned his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Toronto and did his post doctorate research at Cal Tech. Ross has been a frequent guest on radio and TV programs across the country, including PBS, the History Channel, Coast to Coast AM, The Michael Medved Show, and hundreds more. Ross was recently quoted in an article on human origins for Playboy Magazine.
In addition to his new book, Creation as Science, Ross is the author of a number of highly popular books to include: The Fingerprint of God, The Creator and the Cosmos, Beyond the Cosmos, The Genesis Question, Lights in the Sky and Little Green Men, and A Matter of Days. He is co-author of two books by his colleague, biochemist Dr. Fazale Rana: Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off and the Amazon.com best seller, Who Was Adam: A Testable Model Approach to the Origin of Man.
Jeff Zweerink, Ph.D. came to Reasons To Believe from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where he still serves (part-time) on the physics and astronomy research faculty. Although science has been a major interest for most of his life, Jeff developed a fascination with gamma rays-messengers from vastly distant black holes and neutron stars-during his graduate studies at Iowa State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1997.Prior to joining Reasons To Believe, Jeff conducted research using the STACEE and VERITAS gamma-ray telescopes. He was also involved in research projects such as the Solar Two Project and the Whipple Collaboration. Jeff has co-authored more than 30 journal articles and numerous conference proceedings.
Reasons To Believe was founded in 1986 by renowned astrophysicist Hugh Ross, Ph.D. Reasons To Believe is unique in its position of demonstrating that science and the Bible complement one another. The mission of Reasons To Believe is to remove the doubts of skeptics, strengthen the faith of believers, and offer solid answers to questions about God and science.
Reasons To Believe provides resources that will keep you informed about up-to-the minute discoveries in the sciences and how they harmonize with the words of the Bible. It is our conviction that the facts of nature agree with, and do not contradict, the Bible. Recent scientific discoveries support this now more than at any other time in history.
